P retty ombre birthday card using an emboss resist technique and Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Parakeet Party Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Granny Apple Green Carstock
- 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" from Basic White Cardstock
- 3/4" x 3-3/4" from Basic White Cardstock
Insert the Granny Apple Green rectangle into the Fern 3D Embossing Folder. Use the line printed on the front flap of the folder to make sure it is lined up straight. Place the folder with the cardstock inside on the platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine and run through the machine.
Adhere the dry embossed Granny Apple Green rectangle to the front of the Parakeet Party card.
Pick out the rectangular postage stamp die that cuts out a rectangle that is 3-1/4" x 4-1/2" from the Perennial Postage Dies. Put it on top of the large, vertical white rectangle on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine.
Rub the Embossing Buddy included in the Embossing Additions Tool Kit over the entire white postage stamp rectangle.
Mount the multiple leaves on a stem image from the Notes Of Nature Set on Block C. Ink it up with the VersaMark Ink Pad. Stamp it randomly all over the white postage stamp rectangle. Remember to re-ink the stamp each time. Change the orientation of the stamp each time. Let some of the images go off the edges of the cardstock.
Note: You might want to stamp half of the rectangle and then add the embossing powder and melt it before stamping the other half of the rectangle.
Lay the VersaMark stamped rectangle in the center of the Powder Pal included in the Embossing Additions Tool Kit. Sprinkle on some clear powder from the Basics Stampin' Emboss Powders so it covers all the stamped images. Tap off excess powder. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Note: Again, you might want to stamp and heat emboss half of the rectangle at a time.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool on the highest setting until it is completely melted (shiny and smooth).
Tip: Use the Crafting Tweezers included in the Embossing Additions Tool Kit to hold the cardstock while you are heating it so you don't burn your fingers.
Lay the stamped and heat embossed white postage stamp rectangle on some Grid Paper on your work surface.
Ink up about half of the Stampin' Brayer by running it across the open Parakeet Party Ink Pad several times. Make sure not to roll back and forth, but roll from one direction only.
Roll the inked up Stampin' Brayer across the top 1/3 of the stamped and heat embossed white postage stamp rectangle. Repeat a couple of times with a newly re-inked brayer until you have the coverage you want.
Clean the brayer off with a baby wipe.
Ink up about half of the Stampin' Brayer by running it across the open Granny Apple Green Ink Pad several times. Make sure not to roll back and forth, but roll from one direction only.
Roll the inked up Stampin' Brayer across the center 1/3 of the stamped and heat embossed white postage stamp rectangle so it overlaps the bottom of the Parakeet Party ink you brayered on earlier. Repeat a couple of times with a newly re-inked brayer until you have the coverage you want.
Clean the brayer off with a baby wipe.
Ink up about half of the Stampin' Brayer by running it across the open Old Olive Ink Pad several times. Make sure not to roll back and forth, but roll from one direction only.
Roll the inked up Stampin' Brayer across the bottom 1/3 of the stamped and heat embossed white postage stamp rectangle so it overlaps the bottom of the Granny Apple Green ink you brayered on earlier. Repeat a couple of times with a newly re-inked brayer until you have the coverage you want.
Clean the brayer off with a baby wipe.
Ink up most of the Stampin' Brayer by running it across the open Parakeet Party Ink Pad several times. Make sure not to roll back and forth, but roll from one direction only.
Roll the inked up Stampin' Brayer across the entire stamped and heat embossed postage stamp rectangle to fill in all the spaces and blend the lines between the different green colors. Repeat a couple of times with a newly re-inked brayer until you have the coverage you want.
Clean the brayer by running it under some water and letting it air dry.
Use a tissue or paper towel to rub off any excess ink sitting on top of the stamped images on the postage stamp rectangle.
Adhere the heat embossed and brayered postage stamp rectangle to the front of the card in the center so the darker green ink is at the bottom.
Cut an 8" piece of the Lemon Lime Twist Ribbon included in the Ribbon Duo Combo Pack.
Fold the ribbon in half making a loose loop. Lay the folded ribbon on top of the card front as shown so the loop is in the upper left corner of the postage stamp rectangle and the open ends stick over the right edge near the center just a bit. Use a small piece of Tear & Tape Adhesive to hold the looped ribbon in place where it crosses over itself about 1-1/2" from the top of the postage stamp rectangle. Leave the protective backing in place.
Unlock the Happy Labels Pick A Punch. Slide one short edge of the thin white strip into the left side of the punch (the side of the punch with the larger scallops) as far as it will go and get it centered. Punch. Repeat with the other end.
Mount the "today is all about you Happy Birthday" sentiment from the Notes Of Nature Set on Block H. Ink it up with the Old Olive Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the punched white strip.
Put tiny pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive on the ends of the back of the stamped sentiment strip. Put Stampin' Dimensionals in the center of the back of the stamped sentiment strip.
Remove the protective backings from the Tear & Tape and Dimensionals on the back of the sentiment strip and adhere it in place as shown so it is centered side to side, is about 1-1/4" from the top of the postage stamp rectangle, and covers the Tear & Tape holding the ribbon in place.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick to carefully peel up 5 Parakeet Party pearls from the sheet of 2022-2024 In Color Pearls making sure that you get the adhesive backings as well. Adhere them randomly to the front of the card as shown.
